How to Keep Your Fridge Clean and Organised

The saying 'tidy space, tidy mind' speaks true strongly starting with your kitchen. So much of our day-to-day involves food, whether that's cooking big meals for friends and family, or quickly grabbing the easiest lunch for work in a mad rush. Many call the kitchen the heart of the home, so it is crucial that it is clean and organised, starting with the fridge...

1. Firstly, throw away any items that are out of date or unused.

2. Moving quickly, remove any other items in the fridge, and give the fridge walls, shelves and door a wipe round using bicarbonate soda sprinkled on a damp cloth - brilliant for removing odours. To make it easier to clean in the future, invest in some fridge mats to put on each shelf to collect any spillages.

3. Set the fridge to 5°C to avoid growing harmful bacteria.

4. Designate areas of the fridge for different types of food - storing meat at the bottom, and buy a bottle rack for wine bottles to be stored in.

5. Store leftovers and homemade items in labelled glass tupperware for up to 4 days to keep food fresh. This will allow you to clearly see what you have, so that you can plan ahead.

6. Overtime you go food shopping, bring older food items forward in the fridge, so that they don't get forgotten about.

7. Store eggs and milk in the middle of the fridge, as these products don't last as long in the door as it is opened and closed allowing warm air to fluctuate.

8. Store opened meats such as bacon in tupperware, to avoid any spillages or odours forming.

These tips will ensure your kitchen is organised and efficient, letting the rest of your day run smoothly.
