How to Create Healthy Air in Your Home
We’re all aware of the dangerous level of pollution rising in our atmosphere, but actually not only is there a pollution concern outside, but also in the safe and cosy environment we call home. Studies have shown that in industrialised countries, people are spending as much as 90% of their time inside. Surprisingly, the level of toxins and chemicals found in the inside air are causing one of the highest public health risks. Here are some all-natural ways of improving the air you breathe.
1. Invest in some air-purifying plants
Three of the main toxins found in our air without us even knowing are benzene, trichloroethylene and formaldehyde, which have connections to allergies, asthma, and cancer. Not only does having nature in the home have a calming effect, but also filters the air. A few plants to consider are Aloe Vera, Red-edged Dracaena and Peace Lilies. These are great pollutant absorbers and don’t need too much care!
2. Open the windows!
One that’s pretty obvious, open the windows every morning to circulate the air. Just imagine the same air sitting there, building in toxins…
3. Stop using toxic chemicals
This is probably the hardest step, as it is a lot harder to find products have aren’t crawling with harsh chemicals. Look out for the words ‘danger’ or ‘warning’, as this is clear indication of toxins. Try ordering them online, which will probably be cheaper too! If you want to go really natural, try using lemon juice or vinegar, it really works.
Finally, be careful not to use VOC paint as this sits on your walls over time, releasing chemicals into your home's air…
